Building 101: Pre-Consultation Requests

Pre-consultation is an optional pre-application step for building permit applicants. This article will guide you through the process of creating a pre-consultation request in Cloudpermit.

Step 1: Initiating the Pre-Consultation Request

1.  During the application process Cloudpermit will ask if you want to participate in the pre-consultation. Click "Next" after enabling the pre-consultation toggle switch.

Step 2: Review and Confirm Application Data

2.1. The summary view will display the data you've entered. If you need to make changes, click "Back" to return to the previous workspaces.

2.2. To proceed to the pre-consultation workspace, click the "Finish and Create" button.

Step 3: Completing the Pre-Consultation Request

3.1. In the pre-consultation workspace, you'll find instructions at the top of the page.

3.2. Red dots indicate data that must be completed before submitting the request.

3.3. Click on the form in the "Project Data" section to open it. All fields marked with a red asterisk (*) are required.

3.5. Cloudpermit automatically saves your changes. To return to the workspace, click "Back to Workspace" on the form.

Step 4: Adding Required Roles

4.1. Scroll up to the pre-consultation workspace, where the information field will specify if any roles or attachments are needed.

4.2. To add missing roles, go to the "Parties to the Application" section.

4.3. Click the "pencil" symbol on the party card to edit it.

4.4. Select the missing party from the "Select role(s)*" drop-down list and add it to the party card. You can add as many roles as needed.

4.5. Once all required roles are in the party card, click "Close."

Step 5: Uploading Attachments

5.1. Scroll down to the "Attachments" section, where you can upload plans and documents related to your building project. More information on attachments can be found here.

Step 6: Submitting the Pre-Consultation Request

6.1. After completing all required data and forms, click "Request Pre-Consultation."

6.2. Your pre-consultation request will be submitted to your municipal building department.

Your pre-consultation request is now in the process phase. The municipal building authority will review your request and may schedule pre-consultation meetings with involved parties. Notifications will be sent via Cloudpermit and email.
